Orthopaedics ~ The External Fixator

Sometimes fractured bones are best repaired with an external fixator. This device sits outside of the affected limb and supports pins that are driven through the bone in order to hold the fracture in place to allow healing. Open fractures (where there is a wound through the skin) and infected fractures are often best dealt with in this way.
