Home-made bandages can cause problems

Published: 16 Sep 2018

Sometimes we need to quickly cover a wound or a foot or a toe on our dog or cat. It is totally possible, of course, to do this safely on your own at home, but we want you to keep in mind that the tightness of the bandage or tape is extremely important. It's best to avoid elastic bands or strings because a tight "ring effect" can restrict blood flow, causing swelling and damage to the skin. Elastoplast or bandages applied must not be tight in any way at all and the foot and leg should be monitored for swelling.
