Corneal ulcers occur frequently in domestic pets and can be very frustrating to treat if they do not respond to topical eye drops. Sometimes the ulcer needs to be stimulated to heal by burring the area with a diamond burr which removes any dead corneal tissue and stimulates blood flow to the area. This can also be done by scratching the surface with a needle (called a grid keratectomy) but we think the diamond bur is WAY more cool!
